Our Vision for the Future

Nexus Homes has a unique vision for how the home of the future should be built.
It consists of a home so advanced, it recognizes wasted utilities and turns them off.
A home so sustainable, it’s built out of materials that lasts hundreds of years.
A home so intelligent, it can activate its security system when you leave.

Model One.

50% Less Energy Used

for the base configuration, compared to a conventionally-built home

Model One’s base energy efficiency is achieved by utilizing high-performance, Insulated-Concrete Form as the Model One’s structure. With Insulated-Concrete Form, Model One is able to reduce its heating and cooling expenditure by an incredible 50%.

And with the up and coming, Nexus One Smart Home System, Model One will be able to dynamically reduce its energy consumption during periods where you're not home, further reducing its energy usage by up to 75%.

Insulated Concrete Form

The Model One is built using a high-performance insulating structure called Insulated Concrete Form - a system of modular blocks that are made up of three layers:
a rigid foam double-layer encapsulating a reinforced concrete layer.

These interlocking modular units lock together to create the walls, floors and ceilings that make up the entire structure of the Model One.

Cuts Heating and Cooling by 50%

With Model One's insulated-concrete structure,
heating and cooling expenditure is cut in half while still achieving desirable room temperature.

Configurable for Energy Self-Sufficiency

Model One can be configured with a variety of energy saving and renewable energy systems to attain energy efficiencies higher than 50% -
up to and including energy self-sufficiency.

Passive Solar Design

Passive Solar Design is a unique way of integrating solar panels that can simultaneously save energy while producing energy. Model One can be configured with solar panels installed via Passive Solar Design.

Integrated Battery System

During low consumption periods, such as while you’re away at work, energy produced by the Model One’s solar installation can be stored in an integrated battery system for use when you are home. Continue powering your home during the evening and night when the sun is down with stored solar energy.

Geothermal Heating & Cooling

Geothermal heating and cooling utilizes a system of buried pipes deep underground, called Earth Loops, that extract the relatively constant temperature of the Earth to either heat Model One during the winter or cool Model One during the summer.

Radiant Floor Heating

Model One's floors can be underlaid with hot water tubing that transfers heat into the room via radiant heat and convection. This approach is more energy-efficient than conventional heating systems because no energy is lost through heated air travelling through Model One's air ducts.

Rain Water Collection

Model One can be outfitted with a Rain Water Collection system to lessen water usage for toilet flushing and lawn irrigation.

Passive Solar Design

Simultaneously save energy while producing energy
Model One can be configured with a Passive Solar Design installation capable of achieving 30% more energy savings than a conventional solar installation.
Passive Solar Design is a different approach to integrating solar panels: instead of going on the roof, Model One integrates its solar panels as window overhangs in the rear of the house.

Summer Savings

During summer, the sun is higher in the sky than it is during winter, resulting in a significant amount of sun rays getting blocked and absorbed by the solar panel overhangs.

This prevents build up of heat inside the rooms that have windows facing the sun. With less heat build up from the sun, your air conditioner has to work less to maintain your room temperature. As a result, you’ll reduce your cooling bill.

Winter Savings

During winter, the sun is lower in the sky than it is during summer, resulting in a significant amount of sun rays passing under the solar panel overhangs into your house.

This facilitates a build up of heat through the glass windows and passively warms up the room. The increased heat buildup passively reduces energy consumption on your heating system and reduces your heating bill.

Exceptional Build Quality

By utilizing Insulated Concrete Form as it’s frame and structure, Model One is significantly more durable, longer-lasting and more sustainable than conventional wood-frame homes:

8x

Stronger

than a conventionally-built home

With reinforced concrete being the core material used in Model One’s structural frame, Model One is substantially more durable and resilient compared to conventional wood-frame homes. By being 4x more fire resistant and significantly more durable against natural disasters, Model One delivers unparalleled peace of mind.

90%

Less Trees Used

than a conventionally-built home

Modern homes are traditionally built out of a wooden structural frame which involves cutting down and using an average of 30 trees. With the Model One’s concrete structural frame, over 90% less trees are used to build each Model One.

Excluding wood from the build process of the Model One’s structure also significantly reduces the potential of mould buildup. Rotting and natural deterioration of wood is also avoided, making the Model One’s structural frame an incredibly sustainable home.
